This blog is a project of the Solano County Historical Society.
Solano County lies at the northeastern corner of San Francisco Bay. It extends geographically from the Bay easterly nearly to Sacramento. Named after a Chief of the local native Americans, it is largely an agricultural county. Solano County is also the home of Travis Air Force Base, and was home of the first Navy base on the west coast, at Mare Island, across the Napa River from Vallejo.
